The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November 2021, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December 2021, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. The global theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which will run from 25 November to 10 December 2021, is “Orange the world: End violence against women now!” In Bangladesh, along with other social welfare organizations SHN was involved in the campaign to create awareness against the violation against women at the community level. From 133 clinic locations, SHN clinics have played a great role by engaging mass people and local community leaders to create awareness. SHN has arranged panel discussions at 20 clinic premises to discuss several key points on gender based violations. In these panel discussions, representatives from local governmental administrations, lawyers, teachers, journalists, social activists, and local political leaders were present. “Culture of impunity, lack of accountability, and absence of legal protection are among the few main reasons behind widespread violence against women in Bangladesh”, said in the discussions. Honorable speakers were emphasized women empowerment, legal rights for women in the family as well as in professional life, social security for girls, and a safe environment. Along with these activities, SHN service providers were promoting the right messages against gender based violation from all of the satellite spots from November 25 to December 10, 2021.
